Looking to buy my first Harley
Hi everyone, new guy here. Thinking about buying my first Harley. I haven't ridden a motorcycle in 30 years, since I sold my Kawasaki 750. Local dealer has a nice 1997 FXSTC, 14,000 miles for $6900. Looks nice, has forward controls added. They said they ran this through their shop and all is good. Any opinions on this model? Something I should look out for? They offer a new rider course with a purchase, I will take it. Just planning on short weekend trips and such, and will likely only keep it for a year and sell it. Opinions?

I don't know what the market is where you are, but you can get a bike 8-10 years newer for that price in Tx. The bike in itself is fine, came from the factory with Fwd controls though, and the Evo motor is very reliable but the price is high for the year I believe. Especially in the winter. Skip the dealer and look at Craigslist.

I have to agree that ~$4500-5000 would make me a buyer.
Tell them to call you if they want to sell it.

I had an '87 FXSTC and I currently have a '98 FLSTS.
The early EVO's are reliable engines but they do have more vibrations than the later "B" models.
The asking price does seem to be quite high but to me the main issue with any used bike is mileage and condition.
This bike could provide you with many years of reliable service, however, if you are planning on using it for long trips at highway speeds, or if you think you will someday sell it and "break even" on your initial investment, I think you may be extremely disappointed.
