Default Blue Ridge Mountains=Father and son memories

Before
After 2 weeks
This past summer I started a project with my 16 year old son that I will never forget. My step brother died in 1989 in a fatal car crash he left behind a 1985 Honda Rebel 250 that my stepdad put away for 20 yrs. He gave the bike to me with a promise that I'd always keep it in the family and never sell it . So I stored the bike for 7more years in my garage .So for 27 years this bike sat, never started..
It was july,I was on vacation .My son kept bugging me about maybe wanting to get his motorcycle license when he attained his driver's license .Hesitantly I said okay ,but I wasn't going to buy him a bike we could just rebuild the old rebel in the building .When I pulled it out he said "I don't know Dad the things in pretty rough shape ".I said "well it'll be a good project for us to work on through the winter "Liittle did I know for the next two weeks on my vacation I would be tearing down a bike and rebuilding it from the ground up because my son couldn't wait till winter. My son obtained his learner's permit and we rode our bikes to my step dad's house .The look on his face was priceless . We had made a few changes . The paint color and turned the bike into a bobber but he was very excited to see it running again.
The next day as a nervous father watching his son ride his motorcycle we set out on a five-hour trip across the Blue Ridge Parkway where there will be a day I will never forget nor will he....

Been there several times myself and even as a kid wished that some day I could ride it on a bike. 45mph top speed on the parkway would be perfect for that Rebel bike. I'd bet it took the trip better than your larger bike. I'm into my second year riding after being idle for the past thirty so I may make that trip myself pretty soon.
Great memories, glad you dad is still around to hear the stories shared.

Very nice story. Fathers spending time with sons is so important. The only thing that could make this story better is some pics
