Illinois and the county that I live in have motor patrols. I wondered why the rural county had one. The dealer said ticket revenues are more in one year than the full cost of the bike and equipment.

The state police are mainly on I-80 for drug patrols. They do a huge number of arrests as it is a major route to Chicago.

Tennessee Highway Patrol has Harleys, also Memphis PD, and I think metro Nashville still does.

 

CHP has Harley's and so do many City PD's and other local agencies around here.

 

NY seems mostly street glides. Then I saw a... Can Am - in one town dept. Had more lights on it the the alien ships in Close Encounters. (Wow, I just dated myself didn't I)

Looked ridiculous, but admittedly probably not bad for the motor officer. Just has to learn to lean the wrong way I guess.

 

NC state troopers are on BMW here.

 

The Midwest seems to be almost exclusively HD.

 

I don't know if they all do, but Seattle PD brings their MC Drill Team to our local parade every year, and they're all on Harleys.

 

CHP is using a few HD's. Mostly still BMW's. A few C-14's also. The Kwacks are limited to "135mph." (Being a State vehicle.)

City cops use BMW for onroad and KTM EXC 500's for their offroad teams.

 

All Harley around me, that I'm aware of. Portsmouth NH PD have quite a few motor cops, and Mass State Police. I've seen MSP motors out in some horrendous weather, too.
