The big clubs don't usually go there any more, and theres so many cops, its almost not fun any more. vendors are few, the bike show is decent. Make your own good time, lots of decent riding around. go to Hoover Dam. I haven't gone there in the last few years, and it used to be a favorite of mine. everything goes from order to disorder, have fun if you go.

We go every couple years with some friends. Great ride over from San Diego.
The desert run is pretty wide open with easy cruising. Well placed stops for food and fuel.
The number of bikes on the road significantly increases as you get closer to Laughlin, and the bikes pretty much take over the town for those few days.
Fun riding the shuttle boats up and down the river to visit the different Casinos. Sometimes we just leave the bikes parked and ride the shuttles to get around.
Pretty nice side trips available. Oatman is wall to wall bikes with pretty easy going security. Mostly well behaved crowds that make it more enjoyable for the ladies.
Fun open bars, lots of vendors (many selling the same T Shirts though)
Weather tends to be different every year, but the event itself has stabilized.
Enjoy the displays and demo ride by the different manufacturers. Get a much different demo experience riding the more open roads, than the typical urban dealership offerings.
Lots of the vendors offer services like installation of purchased parts (sometimes free). oil changes, repairs, tire installations, things like that. Get your bike fixed up while you walk around the booths. Prices seem less than regular dealer pricing as they are eager to earn your business. Some lines at the more popular places.
Some like the experience, others not so much. Kinda depends on your own mindset.

I'm going with a buddy.
Never been to the LRR. Been to Sturgis twice. Expecting slow traffic, lotsa cops. Planning on getting out ridin. Don't think I'll be doing any upgrades - having some primary work done prior. [Motorcycle is stored in LVNV this winter].
Nice tips on the visine / sunscreen. Thinking on a Walmart / Target stop before arrival - or just buy it here in Canada.
To the OP - Bring money. Or bring an 'empty' credit card. You need anything - you buy it I guess.
Breakdowns should be alright. I mean there is HD dealerships not to far away [Henderson / Kingman] and I guess I could check into Indie shops. I'd think Laughlin would have one.
I'm a tables guy too. [Someone commented on Craps and Roulette]. Loose / Tight doesn't really apply to my 'type' of gambling.
...and if it sucks; no biggie.
