Buying a Rental Bike??? Bad Idea

If the deal is good enough, and the bike checks out by a reputable indie, I would push hard for the extended warranty and buy.
As for the "it's just a used bike" theory, I ain't buyin' it. I travel a lot for work and spend a lot of time in rental cars. I have seen some really abused cars over the years sporting only a few miles. I would much rather take a chance from a private seller than I would a rental.
But again, if the bike checks out, and you get the deal you want. Go for it.

I bought a RK from a rental place (EagleRider in SF). The bike had Florida plates. First of all you know not to expect it to perfect cosmetically...mine had 30k and ran as well as any used RK out there. You do have to test ride for more than just your typical 30 min test rides. Make sure the engine runs smooth with power and the trans shifts normal and does not pop out of gear of anything. Of course check for leaks. Stuff that might need attention right away would be the shocks and brakes...all easy breezy stuff. I got a pretty damn good deal on it so I bought it.

First time poster on the forum - long time reader. Thanks to all. I ride a Road King, Mrs. rides a Sportster, and is ready to take the plunge on a Fat Boy to take longer trips together. Thinking about buying a bike that was part of the local dealerships' rental fleet (4k miles) - decent deal...
Even if the money is right, worth it to have had a dozen or more other riders on your bike?
Thoughts?
THANKS....

I look at condition and inspect it really well.
Look for the in-service date.
It would seem from the little information provided, that bike might have been in service for 1 year
(maybe May thru September if from your area) and has 1 year of warranty remaining.
4,000 miles is not that much.
It could have been rented for one trip to Sturgis and back along with a few other riders.
Or it could have been rented for a dozen weekends by a dozen riders.
If the dealer was the renter then it should not be difficult to see rental history.
I have seen several vehicles presented as 1 owner, doctor driven or whatever but when reviewed it was easy to see that a teenager was the real driver by the observed abuse.
Look at condition.
Check for original parts.
Check bolts for any sign of scratch.
