No different than buying any used bike, maybe it was ridden gently, maybe thrashed. I'd push for a better deal on the extended warranty though, just in case.

It's just a used bike, relatively new, low miles, professionally serviced...what's the problem?

Honestly, sometimes reading this board you'd come away with the idea that these things are as fragile as a high school girl's virginity.

If the deal is good enough, and the bike checks out by a reputable indie, I would push hard for the extended warranty and buy.

As for the "it's just a used bike" theory, I ain't buyin' it. I travel a lot for work and spend a lot of time in rental cars. I have seen some really abused cars over the years sporting only a few miles. I would much rather take a chance from a private seller than I would a rental.

But again, if the bike checks out, and you get the deal you want. Go for it.

Read the treads on what many claim they do to a rental bike when they have it, Then ask that.

1. Indication of it being dropped
2. Warranty
3. Price
All to be taken into account.
I might be inclined to buy a rental.
The local dealer here does rides out Rt 66 that puts quite a few miles in just one trip.
If the price is right.................

I bought a RK from a rental place (EagleRider in SF). The bike had Florida plates. First of all you know not to expect it to perfect cosmetically...mine had 30k and ran as well as any used RK out there. You do have to test ride for more than just your typical 30 min test rides. Make sure the engine runs smooth with power and the trans shifts normal and does not pop out of gear of anything. Of course check for leaks. Stuff that might need attention right away would be the shocks and brakes...all easy breezy stuff. I got a pretty damn good deal on it so I bought it.

My last ride was a rental, 2600 miles, dealer gave me a great price and included ESP..was a great bike...I woudnt hesitate..as long as it checks out for falls, damage, etc...I would have done it again this time..but the deal and financing on the new one was too good to pass up...

Even if the money is right, worth it to have had a dozen or more other riders on your bike?

Thoughts?

THANKS....
A rental is just another used vehicle to me.
I look at condition and inspect it really well.
Look for the in-service date.
It would seem from the little information provided, that bike might have been in service for 1 year
(maybe May thru September if from your area) and has 1 year of warranty remaining.
4,000 miles is not that much.
It could have been rented for one trip to Sturgis and back along with a few other riders.
Or it could have been rented for a dozen weekends by a dozen riders.
If the dealer was the renter then it should not be difficult to see rental history.
I have seen several vehicles presented as 1 owner, doctor driven or whatever but when reviewed it was easy to see that a teenager was the real driver by the observed abuse.
Look at condition.
Check for original parts.
Check bolts for any sign of scratch.

Don't EVER buy one of the Daytona demo bikes.

It might have been one I had ridden!
