Buying a Rental Bike??? Bad Idea
#51
Thanks all for the great advice. Got to a point where we were within about $1500 between new 2016 and the used rental... she decided to pony up for the new one... Picking up Tuesday!
Based on good advice here, would not have been too afraid to pull the trigger on the rental, I think we would have been ok either way.
Really appreciate the input!

...years ago Alamo had an, "unlimited free mileage deal" so my wife and I rented a Geo Metro and drove it 8,000 miles in two weeks. Got stranded in a flash flood in Capital Reef National Park and had to get pulled out through a terracotta lake by the National Park Service, got a 95 mile an hour speeding ticket on US 2 in Montana (cost $5.00) and just generally beat the urine out of that little pig....but, we did get unlimited free mileage and a few Sneers when we returned it at DTW.
No, I would not purchase a rental bike.

I am laughing while I read this. I just got done with the Indian Vs Harley thread. pages and pages of how awesome HD is. Bullet Proof, best ever etc. We are talking about a bike with 4k miles, and checked by the dealer after every rental. If our beloved HDs are so freaking awesome, and bullet proof, why hesitate? If it has not been wrecked, then so what if some guy was ripping on the throttle? if our beloved HD cant take a few trips to redline then we should be looking at a Honda.
Just bought a used Toyota truck. 206000 miles and didn't bat an eye, why cause I have seen yotas with twice that many miles still going strong in the afghan dessert. I have no worries about a low miles Toyota like that.
Ok enough
