Trouble Shooting My 2012 Sportster...
For some reason I am not getting fuel while trying to start my bike. I have not verified that the pump is actually forcing fuel yet but it does turn on for about 4 seconds when I turn the ignition switch to the on position. The bike will crank fine but will only start when I use starting fluid. Other than that it wont get fuel. Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm not by any means an authority on Sportsters so I don't know if they are all the same but at one time I had a 05 883 kiw and being used to my efi Springer, when I went to ride my 883, I would sometimes forget to turn the little lever down that enables gas to get from the tank to the carb. Could your problem be something as simple as that?

The OP has this thread & another similar one going for the no start problem. He mentions hearing a fuel pump so I'm pretty sure his bike is fuel injected. IIRC all HD models were fuel injected since 2007 so that should eliminate the petcock. I've read where some people have had problems with the quick connect on the fuel tank. It seems that if they disconnected & reconnected the fuel line it solved some of the problems. It does sound like a fuel problem if it starts with starter fluid. Maybe the OP will give us an update soon.
