Default Paint that will stick

So I love my dyna and got a killer deal on it so I kinda brushed off the fact that my motor and things have the natural look to it but time is going on and I dislike it more and more and really wish I would have held out till I found one that was already black, now my question is there any paints out there that I can use to paint the natural gray to black?

If you sand the surface enough you should get just about any kind to stick.

If you're looking to go with a wrinkle black finish, I would recommend VHT Wrinkle Plus. Good to 350° F, and it's more "wrinkly" than the stock HD paint, in my experience. Make sure you properly prep the parts, and follow the instructions closely, for the best effect. I've used it with a heat gun, and gotten excellent results.

Cheers!

Right on, I just got a response on a group on facebook a guy that rebuilds motors said he used the black texture paint from HD http://www.harley-davidson.com/store...-15-98606bf--1 said he has sprayed jugs, primarys, cam covers and everything with no problem so once the weather gets nicer I will be degreasing and scotch briting everything I want to paint the good thing is that my bike is pretty spotless so theres nothing to really clean ill just be scrubbing to make sure there is good contact

Awesome idea I did not even think about that so once the weather gets nice around 70's after I spray it ill also use a heat gun to help the process

I have used the VHT on older bikes it does do a good job......on a CLEAN surface.
I imagine the HD paint will also work....do a good job on surface prep!!!

Are you spraying the parts while still in the frame or taking them out? If leaving them in the frame, make sure to tape off everything you don't want paint on

I used the VHT engine paint on a Nightster motor. Works great and really sticks. Clean the engine with a degreaser and then wipe down with a clean rag and thinner. I would not scrub the old finish just paint over it. Nice thin coats and let dry about 3 mins between coats. After a couple of hours un tape and fire up the bike to cook the paint like directions says.

In my own experience, the Lowes/Home Depot Rust-Oleum BBQ paint out lasts them all. Can't tell you why that's the case, but in terms of durability out of a spray can.... it's second to none.
