I hate to admit this, but I rode without a liscence for years....just kept putting it off. Now, looking back, and because several guys I know have crashed just this year (newbies), really I can't agree more with cracking down on this issue. As we were discussing last night in a different thread, riding is a learned skill. You can only handle the situations on the road that you've learned to handle. I couldn't believe after six years of riding, that I would learn something from a Dept. of Public Safety Motorcycle Operator's Manual!!!! But I did....several things actually. Just learning what you need to get a liscence might be enough to save your sorry bacon.
Now, how do I get my hands on one of those seized bikes!?!

Totally ridicules, just another way for the city to make money. They got all their bases covered now, pay to get the license or pay if you don’t get the license. Even they know the license doesn’t make a better rider since no riding courses are required and anyone can barrow a moped to get the license. Not sure why the poor cop was mentioned along with all the terrible, non-license holding folks. A learner’s permit is a legal license.

it's about damn time IMHO. I know here if you ride, drive without a license your insurance also becomes void. regardless of who's vehicle you may be operating. get into an accident then and lets see what happens when these people have to pay out of their own pocket.

Sorry fellas....owners have first crack at getting their bikes back....pay the impound/tow/storage fee and they're back riding. Whatever makes it to auction usuallyisn't worth the 400-500 it would've cost to get it back.
And a permit isn't a license....riding here in NYCby yourself with justa permit will now get you're scoot impounded...NYPD never enforced it and always looked the other way....those days are gone. Its just another overlooked revenue source that the city is closing the un-official loophole on and the LEO doing the bust gets to bag some OT off of...just watch it near theshift changes- they're less likely to cut you slack then.
