Default Braided leather

My wife and I have noticed a long 3 to 4 feet braided leather strap hanging off the control levers of some of the bikes in the San Diego area, does anybody know what these are for??? Or just decoration??

Well paulies 07, they are called biker whips. I have one and I like it. What its supposed to be used for is for whiping dogs that run at your bike while you are riding or cars changeing lanes into you on the freeway. But mostly they are for looks on the bike. If the person is in a club the whip will usualy be thier club colors, but most people arnt in clubs and just get colors that they like. Check out this link from Chillowee leather http://www.chilhowee.net/whips.html. What part of San Diego are you in? Im up in Clairemont.

I've had a "biker whip" for about 20 years. Did it just because I wanted to. When someone asks what it is/for I tell 'em it's my speedometer. hangin straight down means I'm stopped, hanging back at an angle means I'm goin' sorta slow, whipping straight back and beating me severely about the head and shoulders means I'm goin' too fast!

Love the speedometer analogy. I have a biker whip by http://www.chilhowee.net/whips.html that I got for looks. I did have a couple dogs come at me once and I had zero time to think about getting the whip, but instead trying to keep bike up and get out of situation.

Yep, it's a biker whip. Settles all doubt that you're a biker.

It's for the action after the 'emergency case'[sm=badbadbad.gif]

Go up to a 1% er and tell em it looks "real pretty" and see what it's for
