Fellow biker killed...and a little DUI commentary...
I just had a friend of my wife’s get murdered by a drunk driver last weekend, he was riding home from work (as a bar tender) with his roommate at 3am and as they casually went through a VERY green light a drunk driver decides to take a left (from the crossing lanes in which he had a very red light!) and plow right over Josh and his Ducati! The Drunk driver decided to casually pull over and park, he then got out of the car while on his cell phone and took a leak on the side of the curb…while the chaos ensued around the downed biker he just talked on his phone and finished relieving himself!
Josh died later that day in the hospital due to his head injuries (he was wearing a full faced helmet)
I am not asking for sympathy or condolences…. I just want everyone here to ponder this:
I have noticed today after reading some of the replies to “stupidest thing you’ve said to a cop” that many people have had DUIs or DWIs… I was a little disturbed how cavalier most of you are about your DUI.
You don’t need to defend yourself to me because I am not judging you if you have gotten a DUI, I am sure you paid your dues and regret that decision to drive drunk.
My realization is I just have never realized how MANY people drink and drive! As many times as I have said no to drinks or had someone else (who was sober) drive me home or just crashed somewhere in the back seat of my car because I would never EVER take that chance! And it was never the possibility of a DUI that scared me… it was always the fact that I would never be able to live with myself in putting other people in mortal jeopardy because I was drunk and decided I could handle driving…
Like I said I am not judging anyone here for there post of getting a DUI… I just hope that you learned your lessons and maybe consider passing on those lessons to others when ever you admit to that past error in judgment…and for those who have and will drink and drive maybe my reasoning for never doing it (even with one beer in me) will stick with you and next time you are out drinking it will stop you from making a very bad mistake that could kill another biker.

A very touching story.
To the DUI issue,I have ALWAYS known who I was sharing the road with late at night. I never assume for a second thateveryone having fundrinkingin bars has arranged for safe transportation home. I hate driving at night and I really hate riding at night. Be careful.
I do most ofmy drinking at home, anywhere else and I have my wife drive me home.

I've seen tons of people, including bikers I've ridden with drink while riding. Morons!

All my drinkin years, I lived in a small Ski town so almost everyone walked or took the free shuttles to go out drinking. And most of the bars that I have been to here in Socal are beach area’s and most of the drunkards usual walk or ride a beach cruiser… hum…

First of all, I'm very sorry for your loss and extend my sorrow to the families involved.
Secondly, I agree with your statement about folks being somewhat cavalier about DUI/OWI arrests. I too, try not to be judgemental of those that get caught by law enforcement. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time... simple as that.
I am compelled to add, that if I see you drinking and driving, or witness you driving while under the influence, I have no problem calling the police and seeing to it that you get your due. When you choose to drink and drive, you put me, my family and those that I love at risk, just so you can serve your selfish needs.
Plus, if I see you drunk and cause an accident, I will first pull you out of the car, beat your stupid *** to a pulp and THEN call the cops.
Yes, this thread will most likely get nasty.

I am sorry about your loss and I too hold a steady hand on not drinking. I have not had anything for over 25 years. A decision I made when I lost a whole night and a wad of money and could not remember what had happened,,, I also watch for the other guy,.. But I guess that is part of my riding attitude... Always has been and always will be...

I think the perps' behavior is more an indicator of our times, DUI or not . Too many people today just don't give a sh** about anyone but themselves. I have witnessed this type of behavior at accident scenes-minus the urination, and I'm not even a LEO. He was probably pizzed the bike scratched his car and he wascalling his lawyer to see if he could sue...
