Anyone know what to use on the rear drive belt as a "lube"? I had a tube of great stuff specifically made for belts. Great stuff for here in the hot, dry Arizona desert. Can't remember if HD made it or not. Was sort of like clear Vasoline but a little thicker and came in a "toothpaste" tube. Used it on my previous '91 FXSTC for years. Was great to add an occasional small dab on the sides of the belt. Kept the belt quiet and riding on the sprocket nice and smooth without attracting dirt. I must have tossed it out by mistake.

Thanks, BadBobOK. If this isn't it, it may be dang close. All I have to do is smell it and I can tell if it's the right stuff. The older HD belts were more "rubbery" than today's more "platic-y" belts. So, they benefited from some sort of "lube". It really was not a "lube". More like a wax. Extremely thin coat was all that was needed. HD and Gates never admitted it, but some sort of goop was advantageous. With today's plastic-y belts, the need may not be as much, but the stuff was always nice to have handy in the tool box chemical drawer.

 

It's what I use on my belt edges. Seems to work just fine.

 

I have always just used a bar of ivory soap. I rub it on the sides of the belts on my oldler cars every oil change. No problems with my 07 carbon fiber belt. If it did rub I would be sure to use it first.

 

Won't stand up to the rain though.

 

But your bike will float !
