Default Twin Cam 88 engine vs Twin Cam 96 engine, which is better built?

Now that the Twin Cam 96 has been out for a while, I was wondering how forum members feel about these two engines (TC 88 and TC 96). We know the 88 went through "bearing/tensioner" problems. Many forum members have concerns with TC 96 and have commented on "bearingless 96 camplate", heat issues and and lack of stock power in 96 engine. My question to members is: Which engine do you have more confidence in, feel is better built, more reliable and will last longer; The TC88 or TC96? (And please provide reasons why you feel the way you do).I thank you in advance for your responses.

96 is a compromise.88 has a lot more to offer from the floor.

I've ridden both and get more smiles with my 95" big bore from the original 88" than a stock 96".

Well I have two 05's in the garage, both with 95 in motors now. The new 96 and the six speed wasn't something that made me run to the dealer and ask about trading.

I preferred the early of the two

I have to agree with CTCNC. And we all kknow it's not the size that matters, it's how you use it. lol

Probablythe 88 at this point in time.

But not by much.

If the 96 performs as reasonably expectedover the next5 years, it will come toequal the 88.

I honestly think the 88 eventhough they are very similiar its the small black chevy crate of harley. Alot is universal you now can buy trade and sell parts for it easily. I look at the 96 as a slightly modified version but with the updates come some certain aspects that are more expensive to beef it up while the 88 can be a budget build and its Carb feindly( the 96 can be too)
