Default 95" and 204 cams

I'm trying to get some opinions on the 95" kit using the 204 cams, a few guys because of performance issues are trying to get me to go with the 203 cams, but I like dyno chart of the 204s as long as it runs good... I will have rinehart true dual, power commander, and the SE air box...Can anyone tell me their thoughts on this setup?

Stage I (stage II on the way)

I never heard of performance issues.
I have a 02 road king 88" went with the 204s and a SE tuner andgot some nice dyno numbers. 204sreallymade adifference. I will be doing the cylinders and pistons soon with rinehart true duals. You may also want to look at HQ, andrews, crane cams. I did post the before and after numbers on the forum.

I looked at the Andrews cam but my local dealer is running a 500 bucks off labor special if I go with the HD 95" SE kit which comes with the 203 cams, the dealer is willing to swap out the 203s for the 204 cams which is why I'm here trying to get some opinions from guys who are running the 204s... Glad to see the 204s are working for you...Thanks!

The 204's make a little more torque good for heavier bikes like your ROad King, the 203's make a little more HP good for lighter bikes like a softail. Consider 255's. They have been the CVO cam since 2005. I just put them in my '07 84 HP 101 Ft Lbs of torque.

My friend runs the 204s with a 95 in. and unported heads. runs OK, sounds cool, but

It would ping bad on hot days two up, He bought a SE performance module and It helped abit.

My HQ 95 in a dyna with the .575 cams just runs away from it though.

If you have the dealer show you the cam specs, you'll see 204's are 203's that have been
advanced 4 degrees. This provides for more bottom and midrange with a small drop on top
end HP. 204's are better suited to the higher gearing run in dynas and baggers while 203's
like the softail's shorter gears. If most of your riding is two up, 204's for sure. On the street
giving up midrange torque for top end HP is almost always a loser.

As for the pinging comment, in Socal that problem is usually corrected with a good oil cooler.
When the air gets hot, the motor needs more cooling help from the oil - IMHO.

Love my 204's. I did have an issue with ping to which I had to reprogram the ign module (I'm carbed) and I still have an issue with high oil temps. A cooler is next.

I need to get mine dyno'ed. That's pretty good. I would hope mine is in that range, if not a little higher since I shelled out for the heads as well.
