How to get a replacement key?

How to get a replacement key?
Any body know how hard it will be for me to get a replacement key?
I had to move my bike a little this morning. I put the key into unlock the fork and move the bike. Left the key in their like I used to do on my Sporty. And proceeded to mangle the key. [:@]
I bought the bike used and got only one key (this is a great item to add to the list of why you should always have a spare key) and now I am wondering how long it will be before I can ride again!
Will I have to go to the dealership to order the key and then wait for them to order it from the company and get it shipped to me? Or will I get lucky in that it will be a somewhat easier (or rather less lengthy) process?

Check with your local key maker. Some have the machine to cut a new barrel key. If not then ask them if they know where you can get it. Also, ask your dealer. They'll have somebody they use. It's not that uncommon a type of key.

Take your VIN number and proof of ownership, ie. registration to the dealer and he can order you one. Order one, you get two. I think they are $30.

Dealer. Like what's already been posted. Vin. number---order key get two.You should keep a spare key of everything. Sometimes on some lock systems the only identifier for replacement keys is on the key. Harley keeps the key set with the vin. number but if someone has replaced the key with aftermarket, you could be out of luck. Doubt that has happened but it could. I ran into key issue on one of my bikes with a changed out ignition and fork lock key.

Yep...I've managed to lose a key to my new bike and just went to the dealer. You have to order a set of 2. I think they were $10 each.
If you have the key number you can just give them that otherwise you will need the VIN. Be sure to have your ID and proof of ownership (though I had no problems at my dealer). Will take a few days.
Otherwise I'd try the local lock smith if you have a second one you can copy. (rekeying is not cheap...if you don't have another key go to the dealer)

RE: How to get a replacement key?
I was afraid it was going to be somewhat of an ordeal!!!
Got a hold of the salesperson I bought the bike from. He is a good friend who I ride with and have even gone to some rallies with, and I have bought all four or my bikes from him. He confirmed that the dealership would have to order off the VIN number (dealership closed today - Monday), but he will get them ordered for me tomorrow. He also said he would contact the guy that traded in the bike and see if he can locate an extra key (I only got one and the security fob).
Looks like I won't be riding this week (and maybe into next) but the weather will be a little iffy here anyway (or at least that is what I am telling myself).
On the bright side, I told the gf that is was a blessing that it happened here with the bike under the carport rather than at a rally hundreds of miles from home.
Thanks for the help and responses from all!
