Sounds like he's trying to throw you off the deal so he cn capitalize on it. AMF wasn't 100% bad for the moco. They established innovations for motorcycle production. I was told one time but have since forgotten. I think AMF improved the production line aspect of how the MOCO was doing it.
I don`t think so, he doesn`t know anything about the seller, he is Triumph guy.

I like my shovel and if you were closer I would give you the $3500.00 cash difference
or if you could talk him into trucking it to Nor*Cal

Wondered when someone would throw AMF into the thread...:&gt
I didn't, cuz it is really a mute point anymore.
...ummm...either the point cant speak or maybe you meant MOOT....:&gt
I have a friend of mine who works at the Castle Motorcycles in Rivergate by Nashville, and he told me these bikes are pretty much a trash, they are concidered a cheapest Harleys out there and that he would pass on this deal.I heard that from him before I posted my question here but I wanted to hear from Harley guys, so yes, I know about AMF era but still, I don`t believe Shovelheads are trash, matter of fact, I don`t believe any Harley motorcycle is trash, not everyone can afford $18,000.00 for a bike, so the guys who love Harleys and don`t have much dough ride shovelheads, they work on them ,fix them and bild them up to look awesome, not a $18K - $20K bike but still a nice Harley, I would think.

Db
Db, when push came to shove 4 yrs ago. Momma and I sold an 01 Ultra with a 124" and 6 spd. Kept the pan in the stable, and have built a couple of shovels and sold them and doing another in the grudge right now. This ONE I really like how it is turning out, so may keep it. But trying like a dog to build and sell my way back up to a cubed, slammed, and decked bagger. Read that, $$$$$, like you said. We are working stiffs, so plunking down 20,000+ is just not our thing. That's why I would snap that thing up in a heart beat. At 3500, I could make some $$$ on that one. Again, considering the AMF stigma. Yes, it WAS true they came out of the MoCo as suspect at best. The workers were P*ssed, and it showed in the product. I never saw any, but know guys who found cig butts, all sorts of junk in the lower ends. But,like I said earlier, there are very few of the "original" ones running around. The engines have been gone thru at least once if not more. Thetrannys did not sufer the same "attitude" as the engines. And when this 78 is completed, I'll run side by side all day long with an EVO, and not worry1 bit. It can be done, has been done, and will be done again. Good luck, Db. Welcome to the FORUM.
BTW - here is a link to a NICE shovel. It belongs to a member here on the FORUM (but he doesn't log in very often) I'd like to build a 93" S&S Hot Set-up and put it in something like this with5 spd in a 4spd case, would make a decent cruiser, andVERY affordable to build. Granted, it is not a TC Ultra, but it is not 20G+ either. Click on his picturetrail, and there are a bunch of photos there from beginning to end. Last I talked to him on here, he still has it for sale.

well, I did as some of the guys here told me to do, and asked for the title and original paperwork for the work that was done on the bike and never got a reply from the guy.It looks like this deal is "no go" and Peterbilt will go back on the Ebay.I don`t knw what the problem was with the bike, but as I said, as soon as I asked for a title and receipts guy stopped talking to me.Thank you all for your help and I`ll let you know if something changes.
Thanks.

judging from the pictures, I'd pay 7500 for it. Of course, barring any major issue with it after closer inspection, it "looks" pretty nice, and looks like someone put some
work into it.

The real question is what would you pay for it 5 years later?

Are you guys out of your minds?
It's a Shovel...... not worth a lot of money unless it's an all original bike.
I travel up and down the west coast picking up bikes like that all the time for 3-4 grand.
7500 dollars will buy you a twin cam. Get real...........

I paid $3200 for my FXE Shovel and it was brand damn new in 1975. Monthly payments were $120.

I second that!!!! I rode shovels for 20+ years,I got a real soft spot in my heart for shovelheads, but after having evo's for 10+,and now a tc,I'd never go to a shovel again unless it was dirt-cheap and just to have around as a toy,or 2nd bike. My tc cost me 75,my softail evo cost me about 8k...

Looks like a 5 year old thread. I imagine he either bought it or not.
