Should HD re-enter the AMA super bike race's
Back a ways (1994)the MOCO used to have a bike entered in the AMA superbike races. While the AMA races continue HD dropped out having never won a title. With the popularity of HD as strong as ever It would be great to see them bring the VR1000 back and make a go of beating the foreign bikes who continue to dominate

darkman,
Why not? The MOCO has been dabbling with various engine designs like the VROD motor for instance. Eric Buell has brought some insight into designs too.

The VR-1000 program was flawed because of human errors.....The Motor Company has never spent the money required to win on the road races. The imports will spend WHATEVER is needed to win. That fundamental difference is why H-D will never field a championship on a paved course. Now with the economy and the stock values dropping, it's an even more unlikely time for H-D to get back in the superbike series.

If the Buell 1125R takes off in popularity like the company hopes it will then you make see them get back into it, right now there isn't much of a point in getting back into. The whole idea is what the fans see racing on the track is what they want to buy, not sure that works out for HD.
On a side note the AMA has sold their rights to their racing series to the Daytona Group, which is owned and run by the France family. So it will be interesting to see what happens with that. The only thing they didn't see the rights to is Supercross and Supercross Lites because they already have a management contract with another group.

PLEASE - LET SLEEPING DOGS LAY. I used to go to the Laconia races when there was only 1 open class. The HDs were getting blown away badly. They eventually started the "Battle of the Twins" to give HD a chance. The Duks blew them away. Finally they started a Harley only class and a Harley WON. The biggest, baddest motors we can build are still Less HP then a stock metric sport bike. And then there is handling and braking. I love my Harley, please do not subject me to humiliation.

I would love to see HD get back in the race circuit and compete. HD doesn't have to get blown away. They just have to be willing to change their thinking with regards to engine design. Racing is generally the road to constant research and development. It's kind of like going to the moon. You are forced to find new solutions to unexpected problems. The bike companies that race continually improve their products. Just my humble opinion.

You know, it doesn't have to be that expensive. I'd say a slightly modified Ultra should do the trick. Maybe a CVO with some chassis upgrades.

Yes, they should! They should show the japs who's king of the hill.
