Average miles per year for motorcycles...
Ok, I used the search option any found nothing on the subject. Question is how many miles per year is the average for motorcycles? Say for instance for cars/trucks, the average is somewhere between 12,000-15,000 per year. Might be closer to 15k though. The reason I ask, is I'm hoping to buy another bike and wanting to gage the market. Thanks in advance...Chris

RE: Average miles per year for motorcycles...
I think it varies allot...
Depends if the bike is the primary transportation, or a toy/garage decoration.
If you look for used Harleys you will find many, 5, even 10 years old with under 15k miles still...
On the other hand, I ride everyday and put 5k miles on my FXDL, and I only owned it for two months...
Have 3k miles on my new one... got it in December, but then it was in the shop for almost two months after that when it got hit...[:@]

I think I once heard the number 3500 / year kicked around for Harleys. Sorry, I can not recall the source or the circumstances.
There are bikes that get ridden and bikes that are garage ornaments.

You can find many HDs that are several years old and have 500-2500 miles on them. There are a bunch of gargae bikers that buy them and never ride them.

Look around and you can find somme awesome deals on used bikes. My buddy just bought a 2006Ultra last week with 2600 miles on it. It came with 2 seats, detachable tourpak, hogtunes and Reinhart true duels. The seller was asking $17,500 and he showed up with $16,500 and the guy took it.

If you are asking for a comparison to cars (i.e. used to be 12K per year before you reduced purchase price on a used one; now it is 15K); I think the reference above of 6K was accurate. I saw 5.5K for bikes over 700cc's (or 750). The book did not deduct or add value based on the mile, but gave the amount as a guide (i.e. bikes at that level of miles per year = average; way below good deal, way above, not as good). We all know that a well maintained bike with 10K is a better deal than poorly maintained at 5K.

About garage riders that true...well there is this bike that has 28,500 on a '02 FXST going for $9,000. Figure it come to about 4,750/year. Should I find something w/ less miles? But I kinda like the price, though. Anything under 6,000-7,000 miles and the value of the used bikes hold pretty well.

I do around 8K a year on mine.
I'd do more but I live in Maine and usually only have around 7 months worth of riding weather.
I think if I lived in Florida or Arizona I'd be putting 12K easy on it.
