Harley's in wrecks.
Im not sure if this has been posted before or not.If it has,please excuse me.
Has anyone noticed that when a motorcycle accident is in the paper,they never mention the make or brand unless its a Harley.I have yet to see another brand mentioned.
It usualy goes like this"Joe Smith 29 was seriously injured when a car driven by Rosie Howell made a left turn into the path of Smith's Harley Davidson"No tickets were issued.
If a Kawasuzikionda does a ditch dive,they never mention anything about the make of bike.
Maybe the press think we deserve it,and it makes great copy.

RE: Harley's in wrecks.
We've had a rash of motorcycle accidents up here in Saskatoon, Canada this past spring...all have been rice rockets. Never a make mentioned but the pictures tell the story.

I know what you mean Sandhog -

In fact I've made it a poitn to change this thought process, as I work at a newspaper, as the Director of Production and Operations. \\; No I don't actual write copy (stories) for the paper, though as a veteran biker of some 30-years or so, I convinced them to give me a blog on the newspapers' web site. \\; On top of that, I've been schooling the writers and photogs on what to put in stories pertaining to manufacturers and terminology. \\; So if you happen to see The Post-Star in upstate NY and read about an accident involving a motorcyclist, you'll see other brands.

Police said Linda Russell, 58, of New Paltz, was southbound on Route 44/55 in a 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe when she crossed the path of a northbound 2004 Triumph motorcycle as she turned left onto Tillson Avenue.

Out local rag (The Topeka Crapitol Urinal) does exactly that.

If it is anything other than a HD, they don't mention brand....but if a HD rider gets in a wreck? \\; You betcha......the name "Harley Davidson" will appear in the story.

Most of the time these stories are written by people who don't know a damn thing about bikes. Just goes to prove that Harley is the most recognized name in motorcycling. \\;

Do you think maybe the reporter recognizes the best motorcycle made and can id it whereas all the others look the same hence no name.
