Default (Satire) Harley Announces 2010 Bikes (Satire)

Milwaukee, Wis - Harley-Davidson Motor Company today announced its 2010 model year line-up will include a new water cooled 1690CC (103 cubic inches) four valves per cylinder V-Twin with a claimed 135 horsepower and 150 pounds-feet of torque. Although a water-cooled V-twin is not new for HD, this will be the first time the Motor Company put this technology in a Touring class ElectraGlide and TriGlide Trike configuration. The new motor, along with being nearly twice as powerfull as previous air-cooled motors, weights 25% less and is 60% quieter. Fuel mileage figures were not available at press time, but insiders hope for 50MPG hiway numbers. Prices are expected to remain the same as similar models in 2009.
Another innovation, new for 2010, is the optional AutoCruise(tm) 4 speed automatic transmission available only with the new motor in large touring bikes like the UltraClassic ElectraGlide and the TriGlide three wheeler. This transmission has an electronic torque converter and uses the relatively new shiftless method of delivering torque to the rear wheel. The motorcycle rider can select from shifting (without a clutch) or fully automatic. In fully automatic, the rider lifts up on the shifter to engage the transmission and smoothly accelerates away from a stop. Sensors monitoring many different inputs from the engine, transmission, throttle, and load determine how much torque the rider wants to deliver to the rear wheel, and provide that torque in a smooth progression of power.
Although performance minder riders may be skeptical of this technology, reports indicate that quarter-mile times are significantly better with the transmission delivering peak torque requardless of load or speed - no more shifting to stay in the powerband. Wack the throttle open, and the motor instantly responds by spinning to the peak in the torque curve and staying there as the motorcycle builds speed with alarming quickness.
Harley-Davidson is betting it's future on it's installed base of loyal followers flocking to this new technology. Previous water-cooled offerings were panned largely do to the sport-bike image the Reveloution-engine powered but Sportster sized V-Rod cloaked itself in.
Time will tell if the vision is correct....

(don't forget this is a fictional story)

I also heard HD was coming out with 2 electronically operated jiffy stands (one on each side). When the bike comes to a stop the jiffy stands automatically deploy. This will keep the bike from falling over if you forget to put down your feet.

They keep catering to the Yuppies and Rubs and I don't think this is that far off base.
