Yet Another Tire Question: Adding Air
How often do you find it necessary to add air to your motorcycle tires? I'm not talking about just checking the tire pressure. I'm asking how often you find it necessary to actually add air to the tires?
I've owned 7 Harleys and a couple other bikes and I probably haven't needed to add air more than about once every 4 months (on average).
Also, how low does your tire pressure have to be before you will add air? If my tires are down 2 or 3 pounds, I don't worry about it, but if they are down 5 pounds or more, then I will add air.

I used to check before every ride. Then I realized that the only reason I was ever having to add air was because of the air I was losing checking the tires. I rarely check more than once a month now. By the way, I have laced wheels and innertubes. I don't think they lose air as much as tires without innertubes.

I'm glad I ran across this thread, it reminded my I have to change out the winter air my tires and put in the northern folks riding season air. Once a week checks or when something feels real mushy rolling out of the garage.

I check my tires with a gauge once a week and usually add air every two weeks or so. Sometimes it is a pound and sometimes two psig. I inflate my tires and run them at max recommended tire pressure.

I go down to the local jail on Monday morning before they empty out the DUI breath analyzer and have them put that air into my portable air tank. Then I take the portable tank home and use it to air up my tires. The alcohol that's mixed in with the air makes it lighter, and it also keeps the inside of my tubes clean......................NOT!
I check them once a week or before any long trips. In the winter I need to add more air than in the summer. I use an accurate air gauge and I bring my air tank over when I check my tires. If they are down more than two pounds I add air.

+1 and I will add air if the tire is down 1 lb. I have a digital tire guage that is very accurate.
