Default Why Softail more expensive than Dyna

I didn't get reply to my tag-on question from my other post, so I like to ask separately and hope to get some more understanding how H-D prices the bike?

Along the line of choosing a Bike, why softail is more expensive than Dyna. They both have same size of engine. Is it because Softail has more chrome and more mods on the stock version?

In other words, what am I paying more for?

Not sure I follow. You mean softail does not cost more to make in HD. All these are artificially induced.

There models have been around for a long time, the demand should be levering off.

There's a certain level of increased complexity to the Softail engine, and perhaps the chassis is harder or more expensive to produce, but the cost of manufacturing is only one aspect of price. In reality, the price is set by the customer: what the customer is willing to pay is where the price is set. Harley, like any profit seeking company, will try to set its price so the number of customers that will pay that price is equal to it's ability to produce.

Though the engine is the same size, it is not the same engine. The softail engine is rigid mounted hence has a counter balanced motor to reduce shaking. The frame is desinged to hide the rear suspension. Most softails have more eye candy on them than dynas as well.

Because Softails are for RUB's, and Harley knows they will pay more for a bike.

J/K Softail guys

I do think it has to do with Softails being in higher demand. Softails have the higher sales, so they know they can charge more for them.

The Softails have that oil tank under the seat. I don't understand why they have them and Dynas don't.

Softtails were designed to look like a rigid bike , or hardtail . They incorporate a hidden shock system , attached to a swingarm rear .
