Trade in Value of an 05 883L
Bike is mint with about 3k miles, V&H Straightshots, Big Sucker and a LePera solo seat. I am going to try and trade it on an 09 Street Glide...what's this thing worth? NADA listed average retail as 4400 dollars but that doesn't seem right. I see them selling for more than that all the time.
If I could get 4k to 4500 on a trade for it then I'd be ok with that....problem is my dealer seems to be inundated with sportsters...probably a result of the promo but still.

avg retail is not what the dealer is going to pay, probably 1/2-2/3 of that. I thought they were giving full purchase price on sporty trade ins? Ive had dealers at one time say they cant move sportsters, dont know if times have changed for the better.
BTW, I like the softail, Someday I want to build one from the ground up.

A local dealer told me he'd give me $2800.00 for my wife's '06 883 Sporty. 1900 miles. Windshield, bags, Sundowner seat. We were considering a new Heritage for her. Decided when we were serious, we'd have to sell it ourselves if we wanted anything out of it. I bought it used and that price was just over half what I'd paid for it nine months earlier. No thanks. Best bet is always selling it yourself. The dealer has to make money on it and probably put some sort of warranty on it to boot. $2000.00 worth of possible profit?? Yeah, that and more are the norm. Not that any of us on the other side of the deal are happy about it. Good luck.

Tom from http://harleygoodies.com/ here. I suggest selling it privately for around $5000. That is a fair price for the bike.

I bought a used one for my daughter off my local H-D dealer last summer for $5,500.00. It had 4,500 miles on it.

i think you'd be lucky to get 3000 or 3500 on a trade in mint condition. you can get a new one around here for just over 5000. selling yourself would be the way, probably get your 4000 for it. good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Even if the cycle is in "mint" condition (meaning it looks like it just came off the showroom), the trade in value is probably closer to $3000, maybe less. With the new models coming out in 6 weeks or so, the bike will be five years old.
As you mentioned, with the promotion for Sportsters that brought back many to the showroom, older used Sportsters values have dropped.
