Default Veterans & Servicemen

As the calendar creeps toward the anniversary of D-Day I wanted to say thanks for your service. Without our nation's veterans, servicemen & servicewomen, we would not be able to enjoy the freedom that has been paid for by the many brave hearts that paid the ultimate price, and the current servicemen & servicewomen who are away from home protecting us. THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE!

It's sad to think that those brave men that stormed those beaches that day are getting fewer and fewer. We lost so many at the time, now time is slowly taking the rest.

God Bless them all.

I spoke to a Marine who was in the Battle of Iwo Jima at Stater Brothers for about 10 minutes yesterday - quite interesting. I couldn't even imagine what that woulda been like - our WWII Vets are a National Treasure!

Yep, those are true heroes. I'd love to go to Normandy some day to see all the history, but the problem is it's in France! Don't know if I could stomach that part.

Can't wait to watch Saving Private Ryan again. GREAT movie!

I agree. That was a special generation. I certainly don't mean to take anything away from any other veteran, and please don't take it that way, but it took a special person to storm a beach knowing there were machine guns waiting to cut you down before you even got there.

At least the cemetaries are considered U.S. soil.

Never knew that the American military cemeteries abroad are considered U.S. soil. Glad to hear.

My Ole Man was there also and he once told me that he was terrified more of drowning than being hit my machine gun fire. He said that as they were heading toward shore before they even got out of their landing craft they were seeing literally hundreds of guys just disappearing into the water. Said with all that gear if you stepped in a hole you were history. No way to stay on the surface with all that weight on. Sounded pretty friggin scary.

My HOG chapter is riding down to Bedfort, VA to be part of a D-Day ceremony at the National D-Day Memorial. This is made even more special since it is the 65th anniversary of the invasion and my grandfather was part of it too.
