Help needed: Can't connect Supertuner VCI to PC.
I'm trying to use for the first time my SE Supertuner VCI.
I've installed the software and connected the VCI. The system prompted for driver installation, and I installed it manually from the CD. Driver version is 5.1.0.0
The driver was set up successfully and prompted for computer restart, which I did. Now, when connecting the VCI, the software doesn't see it and in "System-Hardware" I get the yellow exclamation point of driver problems, and the system says it can't install proper drivers.
Screamin' Eagle Pro Super Tuner Software Version: 2.000.0001
Vehicle Communication Interface Software Version: 129
VCI P/N 32109-08A 12/11/08
I have a Sony Vaio VGN-TX1XP with Windows XP Pro SP3.
Any suggestions?

Try uninstalling the software and installing it again from the CD. If that still doesn't work, I'm guessing you could go to VCI's website and download the latest/greatest software to install.
Also, did you just install the drivers from the "Found New Hardware" wizard when you first plugged it into the PC? This only installs the hardware drivers, not the tuning software itself. Or did you install the full software from the CD? Try browsing the CD and looking for a SETUP.EXE file.
I don't know anything about this tuner, but I'm a computer tech, so I'll help ya the best I can from a computer standpoint, but I can't help with the tuner itself.

I'm a computer tech myself, and I'm pretty stumped.
I installed the software from the CD with the standard setup.
I was surprised when I connected the VCI and the system asked me the drivers, as they should have been already there, but sometimes happens. So, when prompted for driver search, I flagged the manual install radio button and directed the search on the CD. The system apparently managed to set up the driver, but then i get the bloody yellow "!", and the Supertuner software doesn't see the VCI. Crap.
Uninstalled and reinstalled the software, both with VCI connected and disconnected. No change.
I've verified the driver files installed vs. the ones in the CD and they are correct. The system recognizes the VCI, but seems uncapable of communicating.

Old post, I know..
But, this is the first google result for this problem, and no-one else seems to have fixed it.
Problem Occurs in Windows 7.
The VCI device is appearing with the correct name in device manager, but, the tuner can't find it.
Solution: Proceed as normally. When the 'Install' button doesn't work, DON'T CLICK ABORT.
Open up a command prompt, and find the VCIDrivers file. I did this:
cd %appdata%
dir /s *vci*
That found a couple, but the one you want is long, and ends in .exe.
Use 7Zip to extract the contents of the file to your desktop (or wherever)
Open Device manager, right click on the VCI device, and chose 'Update Driver'.
Tell it to look where you extracted the contents of the .exe
BAM, works.
