maybe you should get this made into a poll for a better representation.

I converted my engine guard to an oil cooler this winter and I'm loving it so far.

I bought a new 01 Heritage Classic, fuely. I live in Tucson where it can get HOT. The salesman, sales manager, told me I had no need for an oil cooler. He didn/t say that anything was necessarily bad. He just said the factory says they aren't necessary.

Consequently I never added a cooler and never had a problem. I now ride a 1200 Sportster without cooler and 110 is probably the hottest we've been in together with no problem.

Donny Peterson was involved in testing the prototype engine and wrote in American Iron magazine about one of his discussions with the engineers. The engineers of the Twin Cam motor WANTED an oil cooler on the twin cam to compensate for the increased oil temps that were inevitable from the piston oil jets, that pull heat directly from the dome of the piston. When Donny asked why they didn't do it, the engineer stated Willie G. overuled them because he didn't like the look....and as we all know Willie G. is in charge of product "styling." If the engineers even thought it was a good idea, thats good enough for me. I hope to keep this bike 'til death do us part' and an oil cooler can only help long term durability.

I have a Harley oil cooler installed. I also got a oil temp guage at the same time. I am going on my first trip since I installed, so i will know better then. I really like the way the HD kit looks. down and out of the way. Not sure how well it works being behind the fendor, but It has to be better than nothing. It was 230 on Chicago HD.

I'ts hot here living in Arizona and I run a H-D oil cooler on my Road King. I've checked the oil temps before and after the install; about 10-15 degrees cooler after the install.

I installed one a couple weeks ago and it does help, last weekend it was 115 degrees and noticed my oil temp did not go over 220. Best investment I made so far.
