Default Why do the touring models pop and backfire?

Just curious as to why my EG will pop and backfire when I put straight pipes on it, but the sportster I had with straight pipes you couldn't even make it pop or backfire? Does it have to do with that cross over pipe?
I have a fueling box and tried setting it every way possible with same results. Most popping is when I shift gears.

A common cause is exhaust leaks. However, i get "dece"l pop, not when shifting gears. BTW, welcome.

Thanks for the welcome kromdom.

Why does the EG need backpressure but a sportster doesn't?

They all need some backpressure unless you're willing to give up performance in the low - mid range. They're called drag pipes for a reason, they are designed to perform at WOT (wide open throttle) only. Who knows why your Sporty didn't backfire, maybe enough restriction at the head pipe, either way, drag (straight) pipes suck if you're looking for streetable performance.

Low end torque.....lower back pressure reduces low end torque but increases flow and HP at the upper rpm ranges. Also has to do with length of the exhaust and pipe diameters in comparison to engine displacement.

My sporty will backfire a little if I am coasting or not on the throttle.
