Default Anti-Lock Cops

If Harley Davidson offers anti-lock brakes on the Road King and Electra Glide for the police, why don’t they offer the same option for us civilians?

I find this very disturbing.

I didn't know the DID offer it as a Police option. If so, that is a good question.

Hmmm, if they do it's new for 2006. Many cities have switched to BMW or other companies because HD didn't offer it...

What I've read about the H-D ABS is that the '05 version was very bulky and the unit took up half a saddle bag. Supposedly there is a new much less bulky unit that has been delivered to some law enforcement agencies for testing. I have a BMW cruiser with ABS and that is one of the two main reasons I bought the bike (the other was that I love the look of the bike unique among cruisers). The wife has given the OK to add a more touring oriented bike to the stable and the lack of ABS keeps H-D out of the running. As for why it is not offered, I believe the main reason is, they haven't had to. They have no problem selling the bikes without it and the profit margin on the shiny, pretty stuff is much greater than on ABS so that is where they concentrate their efforts. If they weren't losing LEO market share to anti-lock equipped bikes I doubt they would be offered. If the '06 bikes offer it I would definitely look at them.

anti-lock brakes suck, you don't need them and they don't stop you any faster.

I like anti lock brakes, but I don't like it that most systems are integrated. When I am in sand, for example, I want to be able to use the back brakes only, and on my past bike, a Wing, I had to remove the splitter valve connecting the two systems together.
