New to riding and have noticed the same thing. Dumb people riding ass. I hate it. Also, if I'm not sitting directly in the middle of the lane, people people try to come up alongside me ON A SINGLE LANE ROAD! I was hugging the yellow lines yesterday and looked in my right mirror to see a driver's front left fender almost alongside my rear wheel on a 40mph road. I just don't get it.

it all really depends on the fool driving behind you.

Unfortunately, in my experience, going faster causes that butthole to just speed up to faster speeds and tailgate me more anyway.

I've had to jump off and yell at people.

"If you hit me and I live, you WON'T"

I like the twinkie idea. I'm going to try it.

I get lucky most times and I usually have another lane to change into to let someone go. People tailgate in their cages because of ignorance. They've just gotten lucky and haven't had an accident yet.

Also... I get tailgated in single lanes. I'll be traveling at 5-10 over and someone will always manage to zip up on my rear end out of left field. People out here in AZ see a motorcycle and think "well these things can stop and turn on a dime, so who cares if something happens" Trust me. When I talk to people that never piloted a motorcycle, they all think that. Then I tell them the dynamics of motorcycle riding and the weight of the bike and they are usually shocked.

I think all drivers, not just cagers, should just take an extra second and be more aware of your surroundings. I only use extreme means in extreme cases. I'm not just stopping at every intersection and screaming at people.

I still think the twinkies are a good idea, though.

Someguy, I think everyone on here agrees with you. But your explanation only takes care of one situation. As you can see, there are many situations in which we ride, only one of which is riding too slowly in the passing lane.

What about when you're in the passing lane and the guy ahead of you is passing, but not fast enough for the cager behind you, so he's on yer ass?

I find, as do lots of folks on here, apparently, that politeness and getting out of the way is what works most often. Nothing works all the time, but Grace Costs Nothing, as my grandmother used to say, and she was right.

We have to educate drivers, not yell at them and threaten. If you intimidate a driver now, who says that driver won't get back out on the road and drive right over the next rider they see?

If we educate the ones that can be educated, then we save lives and make the world a nicer place. Be an ambassador, not an aggressor. Make the world a better place.

Grace under pressure. It's more than just a bad Rush album.

Most of the time when they see what I am wearing and sidearm, they tend to back off as much as possible.

ya man, i totally agree that there is certain situations. when youre damned no matter what you do, and tailgating will occur. and unfortunately, thats just something we gotta deal with when riding or driving. it just sucks worse when youre riding. cause if you get rear ended, you stand much less chance surviving, then if you were in a cage.

but it seemed like there was more than a few guys here, that were talking as if it was their god given right, to sunday cruise in whatever lane they see fit. and if someone tails them, they would start all kinds a sh!t.

left laners have got to be the biggest cause of traffic entaglement on the road. as well as one of the worst enciters of road rage. and the biggest problem is, they are so ignorant of their surroundings, and the trafiic rules. that they dont even realize they are doing something wrong.

Wink tailgating

when on my bike, I have found most drivers just need a little reminder they are too close. a simple open hand gesture to slow as we often do when riding with other bikes seems to do the trick with most people. I have slowed to allow the ones who don't get it to pass me because seems like those I have tried to put some distance between by speeding up only follow.

tried a test in the cage once. put a sign in my back window for about a month that read "TAILGATING, PROOF YOU CAN'T CURE STUPID". reduced my tailgaters by about 80% and pretty much verified for me anyway that some people just need that reminder.

I wish there was room for that tailgating sticker on my bike. I'd get a tour pak, just to put it on there.

Default tailgaters

considered having some T-shirts made up just for this purpose. a patch on a womans vest or jacklet just wouldn't be big enough for them to read at a safe distance.
