Well roughly 4 years after this thread was started....and someone bumped it up, my input after spending most of the late winter and spring shopping for a Shovel...

I saw the Sturgis editions commanding big bucks....many over 7 and 8 grand.

The FXRs have become desired models, and their price is reflecting it, often going for over 6 and 7 grand.

Lots of FL models going for over 7 grand, I picked up a model that is a little more rare...an FLHS..Electra Glide Sport. Snagged her for 5,500....she was in "so-so" condition.

Cool bike, and somewhat of an oddball year... Does yours have a belt final drive?

"The '66-'69's (most refer to 'em as pan-shovels, BUT the MoCo called 'em Shovelheads) are FINALLY coming into their own, but with the economy, in the tank, $$ has dropped, as well."

Yep, the "generator", "Slabside", or "Flatside" Shovels are getting scharfed up by collectors. As always, the most stock bikes command the most $$$$.

As mentioned, the '71 FX has to be the most collectable.

I'll give ya $4K for the '66 basket provided it's all there and in fair shape.

Still? They were sellin' for "stupid $$$" awhile back... But I've actually seem them drop to somewhat realistic prices lately...

In fact, Baer H-D has a '67, mostly original, with fresh paint for $14,000.00...

Shovel or no, this is one of the classics. 77XLCR Willie finally put something together that they didn't immediately tear off the back fender....

Good Year tires stock, I remember the CR as the bike to have then, but I was a Norton rider and that bike could almost keep up with us. I loved the bike and tried to buy one, but everyone wanted crazy money. Shame HD didn't stick with it but the marketing was all wrong for the Cafe Racer crowd. That belonged to the English and the Euro's.

Actually, they weren't that popular.
