I too thought that wearing a helmet was just awefull.

But I at least wore a half helmet when I first started.

Now after reading a ton of posts on helmets I have changed to a full faced. And I also was going to go with the cheap ones until the salesperson showed me and taught me more about helmets.

I ended up getting a Shoei RF1100. Not the cheapest and not the most expensive. My field of vision did not change a bit unlike what you'll hear from others. I also thought that my hearing was going to be impaired... not true. Now that the wind noise is gone I can hear better than ever.

Choose what you want, but it doesn't make sense to wear one that doesn't fully protect you. BUT that again is ONLY MY OPINION.

carbon fiber as mentioned is the best I have found, I have had mine for years and it's all I wear. comfortable and does not look like a mushroom. I did get the non DOT version, it passes all the dot except the puncture test because it is not thick enough,
This is the only pic I have but at least you can see how it looks worn, they all look good in pictures untill you put them on.

Oh look, the FF Mothers club is out in full force... so much for "let those who ride decide". Why does every helmet thread get turned into a lecture on safety ? That's not what the OP asked.

Another vote for ACC helmets! Have mine and now I would not wear anything but. And have never had a problem at any speed. If you get a helmet to actually fit you it will not move around at interstate speeds. I mean a helmet is supposed to fit snug on your head and to my knowledge your head dont shrink the faster you go.

i'm firmly convinced a novelty helmet completely covered with stickers is safer than one with no stickers.

Headtrip/ACC…….if you adjust the straps right you’re not going to have any shifting front to back at highway speed. You’ve got to shift the side rings forward to shorten the front straps so that when you tighten it – the front straps are pulled down more and it keeps the front of the helmet down. If you don’t do this then it’s going to ride back on your head.

My ACC doesn’t pull on my head at all….. I had a Bell Drifter before it and that thing was awful. With the ACC I can easily turn my head side to side to check lanes for traffic before shifting lanes…..
