I know several guys with both HDs and BMWs. Great guys all. Its a different kind of riding not a different kind of people. I like my current stable and make no exuses.
In the big trips I've made around the country, the most unfriendly riders I've met were either on a BMW or a custom chopper. Don't know why, but it's true.
I used to hang out with this dude, Jim, who rode a Springer Heritage. Jim looked like you're typical biker dude, 6'5" and 270lbs with long hair and waxed-to-a-point goatee. You'd never guess he was a retired Air Force officer with a PhD in engineering. Anyway, another friend of ours, a chick, brought a date to some party and he showed up on a BMW touring rig.
So the first thing Jim asks is "hey man, do you know why they put all that plastic on?"
Dude replies with something to the effect of cutting turbulence, aerodynamics, the usual reasons why those bikes have plastic.
Jim says "Hell no Brother. They do it to cover up the ugly!" And walks away. The dude was just stunned. Point being, it goes both ways.
