Default Biltwell vs. Bell Custom 500

Hi all,

this is a comparison between my new Custom500 helmet and my Biltwell gen.2.

Weight:
Biltwell is slightly lighter.
But for a DOT, Bell is super light for +/- 800g only
both cause no stress on back neck area while riding

Size (Profile):
Ofcourse Biltwell is smaller (lower profile) but still Bell is not bad.

Fitment:
Biltwell is free size
I wear large in H-D/HJC so i went L with Bell. it is ok but not tight enough. M might be too tight because the helmet lacks the cusion available in other DOT helmets. It is lining then the white faom material.

Biltwell moves in high speed. although the Bell not too tight but remain in place in high speed.

Quality:
Both are well made but for the price I would say Bell wins here!!

Overall:
The Bell Custom 500 made me change my thought about the DOT and I would consider it a 9/10 purchase.

I have the biltwell. What I really like about it is its small and light. Thats a huge plus for me. But in a wreck, its still just a cheap plastic helmet and the Bell will actually save your life. Still, I bought the biltwell because I hate helmets and wouldn't have ANY on my bean but for the dirtbag politians in Virginia that say I must. I tried on a number of the Bells and they are much better helmets, but I do not think they are as comfy.

Thanks for the post. I wear a beanie but have been looking at both the Bell Custom 500 and the Biltwell. In the 70's I used to wear a Bell, and I will probably buy the Bell Custom 500 when I get another helmet.

Hey QS78, are you familiar with the Fulmer helmets? If so, how would you compare the Bell 500 with the Fulmer? They look similar to me but I have only seen pictures of the Bell. I have a Biltwell and a Fulmer. I like both helmets.

I never had Fulmer. But have read here in the forums that they fit tighter than Bell and slighty heavier.
It could be my next helmet thu !!

Thanks for the post. I've been looking at the 500 myself and appreciate the comparison. I noticed the word Bell boldly displayed on the front, is it painted on or is it a sticker I can pull off ?
