KR: I too have that exact HJC. For the most part I have enjoyed its use, BUT my wife and I are going to an intercom system and there does not seem to be a deep enough ear hole without modification by myself for the intercom ear piece. My wife recently bought a KBC full faced hinge system helmet that seems to be of higher quality than the HJC and HAS a very nice ear hole built in. I am looking at the KBC but can't find any special number or model name. If I can find one in my head size, I am going to buy it. The HJC is DOT approved and the KBC is both DOT and SNELL approved. .................. BC

I've owned 2 schuberths and like both , 1 saved my life. I currently wear a Shoei RF-1000 , it has the best ventilation of any helmet I've worn, very light, significantly reduces head bobble and strain and is Snell and DOT .

I'm with 89FLHT. Arai helmets are the most comfy, lightest and provide the best protection as far I am concerned. Had 3 acidents in them, no problems here. Well worth the money. Got my rx7-rr4 from derbycycles.com for 299. A great deal. Retail is 699 or so. Well sorth the green. Can you put a price on your head?
Personally, I think you may already have your answer. You found the HJC which is by the way, an excellent helmet. It is DOT and Snell certified like all the others mentioned and is less expensive. Helmets are a personal thing, comfort, fit and overall protection are certainly the factors to consider so I say if the HJC works for you, then buy it. I wear an HJC and I have found very few helmets to be as comfortable for me. I've tried on the Shoei's, Bell and Arai and still I prefer the way my HJC fits my head. Good luck.
First off: black is not any hotter than white. That heavy, thick foam inside the helmet is the same material that insulates your refrigerator.
There are alot of good helmets out there but the most important thing is FIT. The best helmet will be a pain in the ass if it doesn't fit right.
I've had Arai and Shoei, both excellent helmets. However, living in good old Hot Tucson I now have the Nolan because it fits well and also the whole chin bar and face shield flip up for better ventilation when cruising at city speeds.
I agree, I wouldn't buy a helmet without trying it on first, the HJC fit the best. I use the flip up type with the bike, wear a Simpson in the the race car. You always get what you pay for.

I've used an Aria R77-3xx, OK that is not the right model, but it was their more expenive helmet at the time (Around $500 7 years ago). I absolutely loved it. Recently the lower moulding came off and I figured I try Shoei RF-1000. Both helmets fit well and get good reviews. I find the Shoei provides a bit more air flow and a lot more noise. Many people say each of these brands fir different shaped heads, but I find they both fit me well. And both habe removeable pads that you can get in different sizes to fine tune the fit.
Aria has done a recall on the moulding problem, so my 7 year old helmet is getting fixed for free and the warranty extended. With that kind of service, my next helmet will be another Aria
