Default Changing 5 speed to 6 speed

Have a 06 Street Glide! What would be the most efficient way to change to a 6 speed transmission? Would a 07 or 08 street glide tranny fit on a 06?

I would go with a Baker transmission just due to the superior build quality and the 5 year warranty...

I would think long and hard before going to the expense and effort to go from 5 to 6 speed. I have a 2010 Dyna with a 6 speed and seldom use 6th gear. Might be good if you cruise at 75 or above a lot.

Open wallet. Buy six speed, install. Efficient but costly.

I'm about to click 84,000 miles on my 00 road king and would die for a 6th gear; I do a lot of miles about 70 mph. But geeez, over $2 grand for one more gear? And that's just for parts. I just don't understand why it has to be so expensive for o n e more gear. If somebody came out with one for even $1000 I'd be tempted, but unless I trip over a bag of money sometime soon it won't happen for me.

I use sixth gear daily and comfortably at speeds as low as 55. Those that don't use their sixth gear have lost torque. Mostly due to after market exhaust pipes, and the resulting loss of back pressure required to re-seat the exhaust valves before the start of the compression stroke. That aside, the baker is a good suggestion.

Did mine myself, with Baker DD6 gear set. Slipped right in, then with a little grinding on the tranny case, it slipped in and actually rotated! (Not all of the tranny cases require grinding). Best $2,000 I've invested to date...

Petesnot, check out Revtech and Ultima. I believe they both offer a less expensive gear set/tranny.

My buddy bought an Ultima 6 speed tranny, pulled out the gears and put 'em in his bike's tranny case. He then put his old 5 speed set in the Ultima case and sold it. He's got a six speed for hundreds of $$ instead of thousands.

I've been running an SE 6 speed in my '05 RG since it was new, it was the best 2 grand I've spent on the the bike. I like it better than the Cruise Drive as 6th is OD.

6 spd Ultima gear set slipped right in my '99 Dyna. Had neutral light issues and speedo was off, both easy fixes. All total around $900.00
