I live in Oregon,I ride the scoot in the sig pic. 16" Carlini gangsters with 2" risers. Texas law says no more than 15" from the seat. Wife and I are thinking of moving to Texas.
How well is this law enforced? And because I know area is relevant. We are thinking about moving to Austin.

Not sure why my sig pic changed. Here is a pic.

Hmm, didn't know that. I do see that style around Texas fairly often though. Sorry I couldn't help. Nice looking scoot btw

Unless they are ridiculously tall or you are riding like a jackass, cops, at least in Louisiana, won't pull you over for ape hangers.

Louisiana law states they can't be higher than your shoulders. I don't really know about Texas, but many states have the same or similar guidelines and relaxed enforcement.

Stuff like that might come up during a state inspection, but won't get you stopped unless they have another reason to stop you such as drunk driving, doing double the speed limit, etc.

If it is an issue and it is only a couple of inches too high, then maybe different risers or handlebar clamps could be an inexpensive way to get it into compliance, depending on how your current setup is.

Again, if you had ridiculous apes that had your arms reaching up as high as you can stretch, then you would have a greater probability of having a problem.

I live between Austin and San Antonio, and worked in Austin for 14 years. With risers, my current bars are probably 16.5" tall and last set were around 18". Never had any issues anywhere in TX. My seat also sits a little lower, so bar height seems a little higher.

I see guys with bars so high they almost can't reach them LOL! That said, once the coppers have an excuse to pull you over, it will just one in the list of items they write you for.

I also live in the Austin area, and I see bikes all the time with the tall apes.

Handlebar Height
Maximum of 15" above seat - Required by inspection regulations - Texas Department of Public Safety ( Refer to 20.25 (2)(j) )

Can it happen and you get a ticket?
sure
but see all the above posts...34 years (been that long?) riding in Texas and not once been pulled over while riding...
