Default Harley pricing is varies alot in my area...why?

I've been looking for the best price in my area for a Fatboy Lo and I"m amazed at the different prices I've been getting!

Place A: $16980 OTD
Place B: $19700 OTD
Place C: $17300 OTD

I just find it odd that the price on the exact same bike can vary that much! There are deals to be had, and I wonder what justifies these prices.

Feel free to shed some light....

No idea why prices vary, and really you shouldn't either since it appears you come out ahead on this one. But if you must know it could be a that mileage plays a factor.

From what I have seen also shopping one recently, its the deal and the options.
One dealers number still has the freight, prep etc and taxes, tags, yada yada. Others are being more aggressive and making those numbers go away but holding at the MSRP.
Aside from that some order the bikes with security or other options that raise the MSRP from the base to begin with.
I have found that you need to make sure its apples to apples.

Yep could be, sounds like good logic.

Same thing happens here in SoCal. You can go to ten different dealers and get ten different prices, some of them so high it's stupid.

MSRP is just that. Suggested price.

I'm in the Chicago area.

As for options...they are the exact same bike.
They have the security option, but not the ABS/proximity security option. It's for the color option which MSRPs at $16700.

I just think its strange....the dealers are with in a 15-20 mile radius of each other....you'd think they'd be more competitive. I like option A and B's sales guys....but the manager at option B seemed shocked that I wanted to be under $18,000 OTD....he kinda talked down to me and said when you have the cash in hand, we'll talk. Option A deals with more volume, and they gave me a tour of the shop and introduced me to the mechanics, which made the experience pleasant....but I went to option B first....

I wanted to buy mine from the local dealer, but 45 minutes up the road I was able to get the bike I wanted with the extras for the same price that the local dealer was giving me stock. I figured the difference was due to being in or outside of Dallas.

No reason to worry about it. Just buy from the lowest dealer when the time comes.
