Chrome Bassani Road Rage Shorty on Street Bob
Just made a switch from a Kerker 2-1 for my 09 Dyna Street Bob to a Chrome Bassani Road Rage Shorty.
I was looking for some info about the Bassani Road Rage Shorty's, there wasn't that much info about em and I had a lot of questions especially with the discoloration issues and such.
Some people love them and some hate em but I gotta say I really love em at this point.
I just have the basic engine mods, Heavy Breather, Road Rage, SERT- nothing spectacular, pretty much standard.
My concern when buying this was the lack of heat shields for the shortys, the discoloration factor, and the general look of the exhaust but all that was put to rest after using the exhaust.
My SERT setting is just a standardized map that you download, there isn't a shop here in Korea with a DYNO and even if there was, I'm not sure anybody would be good with it.
I got the exhaust on and cleaned before I fired it up because if you don't you're gonna have some permenant stains on there. I did the recommended "curing" process, fired it up for about a minute and let it cool, repeated the process a couple of times.
The sound... It's fantastic. IMO it has the perfect blend of the throaty, thump and the rough slap-tap type sound you get from a Vance and Hines. I've run Screamin' Eagles, Vance and Hines, Rineharts and Kerkers on my other rides but I gotta say the Road Rages is my style of sound.
The performance... It does give you a much more linear power curve especially in the mid to low zone. It's not like a "OMG" difference but you will definately find yourself shifting through gears quicker.
The look... I was really concerned about the discoloring thing cuz, you know, it's a Harley... I'm not into the wrapped header look and you generally want your Chrome to be nice and shiny and well, CHROME...
I opted not to go with the black powedercoat cuz my Bob is a 09 with the silver primary and it's also gloss black with the silver option wheels... (don't ask... I got it used for a good deal)... and there's a pretty significant amount of silver and chrome on my bike so I decided on chrome.
The pipes will change color after the first ride. I spoke with Bassani and heat shields for this are due out in three weeks but I dunno if I want to get em now. I like this look. It turns color but not into a nasty yellowish color but almost gold with the pipes turning into a goldish brown and black dark blue at the heads, and seems to blend well with the black cylinder blocks.
The heat... Not too bad, if you have forward steps on your ride you might burn a hole in your jeans but I'm on mids so I have my legs about four inches in the clear.
All in all, the pipes are damn awesome. Many of the other riders here have never even heard of Bassani but they seem to be pretty impressed.
Koreans are crazy about their gleaming chromed out Harley's and I thought I'd get a few "nay"s on the pipes turning gold but most of the reactions have been pretty positive which probably means that it actually looks pretty cool.
One thing is for sure though, the sound blows everyone away.

Road Rage
I've got the black RR pipe on my bike...The heat shields for this pipe are so small that I wouldn't bother unless they have been redesigned. The pipe make good torque but is really loud and in the summer it is hot as hell. I wouldn't buy this pipe again although I like aspects of it.

Not sure about the heat shields yet as they weren't available for the RR Shorts for Dynas.
Apparently they're still working on it and yeah, I think I'm gonna have to see the finished product and decide then whether I'm gonna get it or not.
I have yet to experience the summer with these things...

The blueing looks great on those and each and every heat signature/tint is a little different.
I agree. Something about it does seem dope...
Burnt a part of my knuckle on the headers though. Was reaching into the back of the battery box and psssssssst~~~!
So hot that it didn't even hurt and left a layer of skin immediately brunt to a crisp lol.

Thanks!
I noticed there just wasn't an exact review or information on the RR chrome exhuasts without heat shieds and such.
It's kind of a pain keeping them clean though. Spent 20 minutes polishing off a tiny piece of plastic wrapping that melted to the side the header...
Used a tissue to try to get it off while it was still melted and the tissue burst into flames. Fun.

An update on the Road Rage
The heat tint/discoloring is getting a bit darker closer to the heads but the overal tint still looks great.
I would recommend you invest in a heat shields if you have forward controls.
I was concerned about washing the bike, but it's not much of an issue as long as you wait about 15 minutes to cool the bike before you start spraying water on it.
Do you guys cool the bikes a bit before you wash?
