"Potato, Potato, Potato", always sounded strange to me...

Not the sound, but the verbal 'rendition', it still doesn't have that classic 'tha-thump, tha-thump, tha-thump'...yet the Po-ta-to Po-ta-to is a three beat sound coming out of a two cylinder engine.

Ya just got-ta love it..........

and the fella in the back row asks, "How's that go again?"

The new engines in hot traffic will get that Potato sound as the back cylinder turns off.

The guy behind me said it goes like "banana - banana - banana"....
I told him that's what his wife uses to finish herself after he's done in 30 seconds.

I'll take gravy on my potatos please, but my '95 evo with a Mikuni carb, street/touring cam and Thunderheader goes "lub-lub, lub-lub, lub-lub" . I get complements on the sound all the time, even my non-riding, stuffy-*** neighbors seem to like the sound.

It's a conspiracy from the anti-potato lobbyists. First, they screw up the fries at Burger King, MacDonalds, etc. Now this.

That's one of the reasons why I'll keep my '05 Softail until I'm too old to ride...

I had a recording of an old pan head on slow idle, and just about to quit. When my 99 EVO is cold, and I let it drop off the vacuum switch, it sounds exactly like the pan. After it warms up it idles a little faster and does not drop off the switch. I usually use the throttle lock to warm it up, but once in a while I let it drop off to slow idle for a second or two, just to hear it. Make me grin every time.
