Default Salvage title...how much does it hurt resale?

I have looked at a couple HDs lately that were rebuilt salvaged bikes.

Any idea how much a salvage title hurts the value on a Harley Say a bike that would sell for $15,000 with a clear title(good title), would it knock the value to $12,500 or closer to $10,000? (assuming there were no visual blemishes on the bike)

I know this is not an exact science but I need some ballpark idea.

As an example I am looking at this '02 Road King for $7800 but it's a salvage title.

Thanks,

Did you check to see what kelly blue book motorcycles says, or nada.com says.

I'd hazard a guess that a bike with a salvage title isn't worth more than 50%-60% of what a Clear Title bike in identical condition would bring. BUT, the real issue is that at any price (other than free) a bike with a salvage title is going to be a real ***** of a bike to try and sell if you ever need to. If you think it's hard to sell a bike in this economy, in the middle of November when 3/4 of the country has or just had a snow storm . . . just add "Salvage Title" to the mix. Look at all the bikes on eBay right now with Clear Titles with zero, none, nada bids on them after a week being listed! You may also want to check with your insurance company to see if they will even insure it . . . at any price.

Oh, yeah, I know it's a buyer's market right now.

I put a couple pictures of one bike I am looking at right now in my original post.

I just love all the nay say'rs.............

Bottom line is, unless you are a collector. You can't ride a piece (title) of paper. If the bike is one you like and its legally papered, and the price is right, you do the math.
