Default HD Financing and a thanks to the forum

Just bought my 2008 Road King Classic.....and I love it! So after negotiating the price I felt comfortable with, I sat down with the salesman to start the grueling application/financing process. They kept trying to fit me into a payment that I wanted....but my point was, get me to the right price for the bike and payment is what it is. I felt like they dropped their shorts on the price of the bike, so i just had to jump. I fill out the app and sit there waiting for approval, daydreaming of riding my new baby....and planning out adventures in my head. Now, my credit is not perfect by any means, but I pay my bills on time and make plenty of money to afford the bike. Here's the knockout punch.....the salesman comes back and says "we got you bought....welcome to the Harley family". As I dig into the details I see they got me bought at 21% interest!!!! Yes that's right.....21%!!!!! After picking myself up off the floor, and after a few choice words to the dealer, I left....pissed. I did some research on the web about BS Harley financing and all signs led to threads on this site. And the general consensus was.....screw HD....go join a credit union and get the loan there. The very next day I joined a CU and applied for the loan. Later that day I was approved at 2.75%!!! Yes, 2.75%!!! Needless to say, you guys saved me a sh*tload of money. Thanks for the info! I'll be visiting often.....see you on the road!

2.75% is a great rate, almost makes it worth borrowing instead of paying.
IMO 21% is either their polite way of saying no or an effort to identify buyers who will put up with B.S.

HD financing is a huge scam & rip-off. Don't know how they think these high rates are acceptable & good offer(s) to potential owners. Glad you didn't bite the hook & alternate financing came through. Congrats on the new scoot - ride safe!

Yeah, it did seem like the HD financing was a scam or its the dealers way of saying......sure, we'll drop the price of the bike $3,000, because we're going to get back end points on the financing, that will take the bike back up to the original price. Who knows....i got my bike, and that's all that matters. Join a credit union folks.

I think H-D Eaglemark financing is mainly for people that can't get financed elsewhere. Why else would you pay an inflated rate if you didn't have too?

Well done. There's a lot to be said for doing your research.
