Twisted will be able to help you on this one.
YOU will definitely learn about tinkering with the shovel
Parts will be harder to find, you will do allot of puter surfing and reading old parts manuals. A shuv will be allot of fun ifin you want to learn

Get the fxr, with both bikes in same condition fxr worth far more than that shovel.

If you like to ride, get the fxr... if you like to tinker, get the shovel.

Pretty much that, and I can say that possessing and absolute love for Shovelheads.

I would have to say, its like apples and oranges, what do you prefer? you've read about the pros and cons, in my book the evo's the better bike for the money. on the plus side its an fxr!!!

Let me add in one more factor. The Shovel has a 4 speed and the FXR has a 5 speed. With the highway speed limits the way they are now, if you ever go on them with the bike, the Shovel will be challenged to keep up and will shake you to death. The FXR will run lower RPM, plus it is rubber mounted.

Not to mention the fact that you actually know the owner of the FXR and presumably you can trust that it has been taken better care of than the Shovel.

thanks guys. I appreciate the comments/advice. I know it is not an apples to apples scenario...I am just really torn between the two.

Pics would help; personally, I would go with the FXR for reasons stated by Phrogman.
