Hey guys, been wanting some apes for my 883R (2005) so i finally got all the parts I needed. I picked up the burly brand 12" Narrow apes in black and also got their cable extension kit for the bars. The problem is, the brake line comes premade for a single rotor front brake and my bike has a dual rotor front brake so i dont need the line to be like less than half the length that it is. Is it possible to modify the line? What can I do. I know i need to remove the banjo bolt at one end to insert it into the part that splits the line, but im not sure how that part connects to the line. Can anyone help me out?

Here you can see how the stock brake line exits the reservoir with a banjo bolt and then gets inserted into a part and into a thinner line which I wont be replacing. So I guess my question is 1) what do i need to do to the line to make it shorter, just cut it. And 2) what do I need to do to the cut off end to connect it into this smaller line?

Why not just remove the solid line and run the new line down to the split?

 

Well, that sounds fine, but id be asking the same question about shortening the line because the line would still be too long. This line is made to go all the way to the brake on the single disc rotor.

 

Never heard of being able to shorten brake hose, but I don't know everything. On hard line, you'd have to get the proper fittings and a double flaring tool.

 

Russell and others make brake line and fittings. I've made several sets of brake lines and it's pretty straightforward. I don't know if their fittings will work on a pre-made line. They might be able to answer you if you call their HQ. Alternatively, if you have a place that makes hydraulic lines near you they may be able to help.
