Why are MC tires so expensive??
I read the post below and always wondered...I have cars, trucks, and tractors and tires for the bikes are right up there in cost.. AND they wear out WAY faster which makes them the most expensive. why?

Ut oh...
Because they can. Because you must absorb the cost if you wish to remain alive for your beloved family.
Now check out putting a CT on that scoot...problem fixed!
And now i must exit before the anti CT flamers jump in here with their feet in their mouths...lol

+1 on the ... "because the tire makers can get away with charging more"! And we pay it because we are willing to fall in line. And NO they are not more expensive to make nor is their quality control any better than other types of tires. Motorcycle owners are notorious for spending money on their bikes...LOL I have spent more in accessories etc than I did on the bike. Stupid? Yes... Fun... Yes...

Low volumes and liability. Also more labor and higher shop rates to remove and reinstall adds to the shock of many first time buyers.
BTW the price of all tires has gone up in the last few months. I ordered new tires for my mower back in November $80 each, they are still on back order so I looked at buying them elsewhere, now they are $125 each.
The last tires I bought for my truck were $95 and for my bike it was $105.
Granted, the mower tires are top of the line heavy duty, the truck tires are mid grade and the bike tire is an average grade so not an apples to apples comparison.

Look on the bright side, sportbike guys will pay $200-300 for a back tire that will likely be completely worn out in 3000mi or less, and that's if they DON'T light it up at every opportunity.

Economics of scale at work as well. For every 1 Michelin bike tire, they probably crank out 20 car tires; lot easier to get a return on their investment when people buy 4 at a time versus 1 at a time.

Now that I think about it even my BICYCLE tires are 80-100 bucks for two....and wear even faster than MC tires. (if I was single I wouldn't mind so much)
