Dunlop D402 Tire

Just found out a few weekends ago that H-Dealerships will only put THEIR tires on your bike... lame.
Got my Avon Distanzia and Pirelli Sport Demon put on at the Indy down the road... rolling in style.
ALMOST just got the back tire that needed to be replaced, but they (HD) didn't have a whitewall in stock.

I put the Metzeler ME 880 Marathon Touring Tires on my bike for the first time this past winter. I love them, well worth it. Happy as I can be!!

Hey, I live on the Red Neck Riviera also. Member of the Heritage Cycles HOG chapter. Nope, this all came from Dunlop themselves. I hope it is right as that is the type of tire I have on the rear and front.

I think he is talking about the Dunlop 404. IT looks just like the HD tire without the marking and is offered cheap online. I installed a front tire on a FLHTC and the guy told me the operator told him it was the same as the HD 402 without the markings. He got 2500 miles and it was BALD.

Found out today that the Dunlop D402 tire is made from a different compound mix than the D402 Harley-Davidson tire. A fellow chapter member got 17,000 miles out of a D402 with Harley on the sidewall and 10,000 from a non branded D402. A call to Dunlop confirmed that he HD tire is made with a different compound. So folks, if you want to save some bucks be sure to get the Dunlop with Harely on the sidewall. They last a lot longer.
The higher mileage tires are made of a harder rubber compound that lasts longer but doesn't grip the road as well as a softer compound tire.
My personal preference is the softer tire with better grip, and don't mind replacing them more often for peace of mind. Just my opinion.
