Default Crazy Gas Mileage

Ever so often, I check up on my gas mileage to see how I'm doing (and how often I need to fill up, using the trip meter). When I went to Mississippi in March I had put very few miles on this bike and I tracked mileage going down and it was in the mid to upper 30's.

Thursday, after riding 150 or so in the city and a little highway, I checked my wife's mileage and she was getting 47+ MPG. That seemed pretty high, but she's riding an 883 and that is only 3 MPG better than the last time I checked hers, so I guess it's about right.

Yesterday I did the same with the mileage on my FXST and it cam out to a little over 50 MPG (wife and I both added it up). That seems impossible to me, but I don't understand what could have made the huge difference - this was after some back road and highway riding, including a group ride on both.

Anybody else ever got 50 MPG on a TC 88?

The winter grade of Gas is a mileage killer. I never understood how using MORE of any type of fuel, can put out less pollutants.,,

It happens. I think its just a combination of riding condition, weather, temp, speed, location and on and on. Last year on a 3 pass ride of about 150 miles, I choked and triple checked my numbers...... 62 mpg.

That was my thought also. That and maybe some questionable quality fuel when low mpg.

I just got exactly 50 on my 96 ci 07 Superglide last weekend. All cruising in the countryside of VA with occasional stops for food/drink and rest rooms.

On normal highway riding and keeping my hand out of the throttle I count on 50 mpg.

If I got mileage in the 30's I would be searching for what is wrong.

My usual MPG is in the low to mid 40's, two up riding. A freind of mine with a 2009 Ultra says he regularly gets 50. I have yet to get to that number myself.

35 MPG, doesn't seem to matter if I ride 1 or 2 up, highway or backroads, rain or shine. That's what I'd call predictable, huh?
