Default Headlamp replacement bulb-LED? Halogen?

After about 1,000 miles I replaced my stock Fatboy headlamp bulb with this Harley part:

"Performance Headlamp Bulb" Part # 67074-02

This bulb, pictured below, lasted about 4,000 miles before the high beam blew out. Since I very often use the high beams during the day time, I noticed in the reflection from the truck in front of me that my light was out, so I switched to low beam. Not only am I disappointed by the "longevity" of this bulb, replacing it is a real chore.

Is there a superior bulb, perhaps an LED that fits a 2010 Fatboy? I see plug in LED bulbs for cages on line. Thanks!

I think some people have used the Sylvania silver stars with decent lifespan.

Might do a search in the touring section for the Sylvania bulbs....

I think the HD LED fits the 7" Fatboy

Thank you. What I'm trying to do is get a very bright bulb without having to spend $500 for LED lamps.

Yea, the Sylvanias might be your best bet, plus you should be able to buy them at a local auto parts store...Sylvania has a web site with comparisons on life expectancy and they explain the K values too.

I do have the HD LEDs on my Ultra, pricey, but man it is crazy bright...

Good luck looking!

Bought 2 Xenon Halogen 100W/90 bulbs ( stock was 60W/55,) from EBay over a year ago, Bright blue/white light, no additional power drain and just over 20,000 miles on them. No heat, no wire damage and cheap!

$10.00 delivered from EBay. ( for 2 )

Please check 'em out. there are dozens of vendors there.

The brighter the lite the more heat it puts out. Thus the sooner it will fail. Yes yours should have lasted a lot longer. Did you touch it with bare fingers? The oil from your skin will conduct heat, thus shorting the life. I usually wipe bulbs with a alcohol swath so to make sure it is clean prior to putting the lens on. Most bulbs have a chart on the back that gives life expectancy and brightness. HD does not have either.

I'm certainly no expert but I believe that the brightness is a combination of wattage plus the type of gas inside.

I asked before I bought because I've seen 100W bulbs melt not only the plastic but even the wires. Anyway they assured me that mine at 5000K brightness, ( whatever that means,) draws no more power and generates no moe heat than my standard 55/60 stock Halogens.

Apparently they were right, as the headlight lens is only warm to the touch and the plastic surround and wiring is fine. ( Voltage meter acts the same also as it did before.)

I'm a Happy Camper way out here in the woods, where it gets really dark!

I installed it as though I were transplanting a live organ into a living patient...no oils.

Thanks all! I was just wondering why, if there are replacement LED tail light bulbs, signal bulbs, headlight bulbs for cars, etc, why not the same for the HD headlight?
