Not So Much Fun at the Gas Station!!
Leaving for work this morning I stopped for gas. On my way out of the station I rode over one of their tank fill covers which proceed to pop up under my bike making the bike immediately come to a complete stop and I was forced to lay it down. Evidently they forgot to bolt the stupid thing down after they filled the tanks.
Thankfully I'm OK, just a scrape on my elbow and a bump on my knee. The bike survived OK and it started right up and I drove it home. Handlebars are bent pretty badly and the Derby Cover is all scraped up. Clutch lever and controls have some scratches. Left rear turn signal is also broken. Thankfully I laid it down on the left side so the pipes aren't damaged and my 1 week old paint job survived unscathed.
I'm pretty bummed!

I did file a report with the station manager. One of the attendants actually saw the whole thing happen. Went home and took some pictures of the damage and am going to get them printed out.

Wow glad you're OK! That really sucks, but at least you didnt get hurt bad. That's where you whip out the cell phone camera and take pics right there and of course let the manager know. Hand him the bill.
Hope your bike is fixed quickly and smoothly.

Good to hear you are ok. The bike can be fixed, us not always.
I always treat those metal tank covers like Manhole covers in the rain and avoid them at all cost. Sometimes they can be avoided though.
