Default Paint on top of Powdercoat?

I thought there was a paint section, but cannot find it, so...

I just powdercoated my new eagle talon kickstand.

But there is a portion of it I want another color.

The powdercoaters tell me you can't powdercoat over powdercoat - you have to paint.

OK... so what kind of paint???

Thanks!

If you use anything other than automotive grade paint it will not last. Not trying to discourage you from doing what it is your trying to accomplish, but you might find that the cost of materials to paint a part of a kickstand might be more than its worth.

I used to paint electrical boxes that were powdercoated all the time...just need to scuff it with sand paper before painting. I used a PPG 2 part urethane... that was tough, could be buffed out to automotive quality and was only about $40 a gallon.

Untrue. You can powdercoat over powdercoat, you just have to do some things differently. In order to PC, the part has got to have electrical current run through it, therefore it will need to have a piece of the part exposed to the bare metal. What they will have to do is preheat the part, powder, then bake.
Yes, you can paint over powder. Just remember that powder is plastic media, therefore you will need to scuff it up with 320 grit and then follow up with a few coats of a good adhesion promoter.

OK... yeah they said "automotive grade paint" also. I think I will just leave it one color, too much trouble!

Yeah, we work with DuPont and House Of Kolor. Any paint will need an adhesion promoter when applied over composite material such as powder coat. It can definitely get to be a hassle real quick, sounds like you made a good call.

Nice work! I have one of the eagle talon claw kickstands - I wanted the feathers and nails pink and the leg white. It's already been done in all pink as they said it can't be done.

Maybe over the winter I will have it taken off if you think you can do the job!
