Default Staying With Genuine Parts Or Not?

I am blame my uncle for this:P

Everytime I talk to him on the phone about 3rd market goodies, he basically says NO!!! Yes he is a true H.D. nut and believes in their genuine products for over 25 years. I am just starting to order my eye candy parts now after just finishing the motor work on the new Lo and so far am staying true, but every time I see 3rd party eye candy catalogs and I am very tempted. I understand some parts maybe inferior in quality and price...but when it comes to painting the canvas, it's hard to ignore.

I did cheat a little:P...bought some Kury throw over bags for 2 or 3 trips a year.

What's folks' opinions on this?

In many cases, genuine HD parts just plain SUCK while costing 2-3x more than aftermarket items. I was very disappointed to find that my two latest HD additions - a chrome dash extension and chrome rear turn signal trim rings - were actually chromed PLASTIC and of course made in (where else?) Taiwan or China.

I prefer to replace parts with USA parts or at least better quality , so no I don't stay with "genuine"

There are many makers of parts and accessories that offer quality parts at a fair price. It is not hard to find them.

HD stuff = waste of money.

I find that aftermarket stuff sometimes has fitment problems that Genuine doesn't.

Be nice if Kury changed the look of their parts finally. gettin' tired of the same ol' clunky accessories.

I don't think many people buy all genuine parts. How many of us have genuine HD exhaust? I've got several 3rd party parts on mine. Hooker, Burly... I don't even remember who custom made my cables.
